Bought a house

Category Personal
Kitchen counter seating

Well, today I bought a house. I ended up spending way more than I had planned, but she who must be obeyed* loves it; and that's all that really matters.

Of course, this being my life, certain things about the purchase turned out......interesting. If you check out the picture, you will notice some really nice custom leather seats along the kitchen counter. The counter height is non-standard; but these seats fit absolutely perfectly. We decided we wanted the seller to leave them, so we asked our realtor to write this into the contract. This is how that turned out.

To be honest, I hope they just leave the chairs.

Gravatar Image1 - Devin, that is absolutely friggin' hilarious. I'm in the middle of two house contracts myself (selling and buying), and I can most certainly see a realtor putting that type of "ambiguous" wording in a contract -- and the seller thinking "Hmm, well, if that's what they want us to 'leave behind'...".

Heh heh, "behind"...

Gravatar Image2 - Once I pointed it out to my wife and my realtor, the two of them laughed themselves silly. It took close to 20 minutes for them to compose themselves so we could continue.

Gravatar Image3 - LMAO! Oh that's a good one. Well done on the house by the way

Gravatar Image4 - It was not 20 minutes. Five tops...but we did need tissues for the laugh-tears.

Still makes me giggle.

Gravatar Image5 - Devin - if they were important, we could have sent some to you

Gravatar Image6 - Wonder what you will get for house warming gifts?

Gravatar Image7 - If I would have known you liked brown stools so much I would have gladly given you some years ago.
Stay in Touch!

Gravatar Image8 - Hey, what happened to Utah? We will miss you guys! Cool new truck!

Gravatar Image9 - Hey there Jodie.

Even though I really wanted to move up there, we couldn't find anything we liked and could afford. Everything we liked was waaaay too much $$, and everything we could afford was not something we liked (or in an area I wanted to live).

When we visited Grand Rapids last July, the whole family pretty much fell in love with the place, and we found a bunch of houses we liked and were in our price range. The list of "pluses" about living there is huge.

I'm REALLY going to miss you & everybody in SLC, as well as everybody in Phoenix; but I think this move is the best thing for us right now. The new house will have a guest suite (not just a room, but a real suite), which means when you come to visit you'll have a nice place to stay.

Gravatar Image10 - Devin,

So the house you bought is in Michigan right? Cool!

Funny about the 'brown stuff'

Gravatar Image11 - Hey Devin - I totally understand, you have to do what is best for you and the family. We will miss you guys. When are you going to make the big move?

Gravatar Image12 - Oh my goodness! Welcome to Michigan! We must get together now and celebrate your arrival!!!

Gravatar Image13 - You're on the top of my list of "people to call".

Gravatar Image14 - Devin,

Whilst Bill would love to take credit for the phrase "She Who Must Be Obeyed", it actually came from a TV programme call "Minder" { Link } and was used by the character Arthur Daley.
